Engineer Baffles The Bandits
MEMPHIS, Nov. 19.- Shortly after midnight m attempt fco holil ap passenger train Xo. 5 on the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley road at Panther Hun, Miss., was balked by the coolness of Engineer F. A. Honer. Panther Run is a small way station. Soon after nightfall a half dozen strange men entered tiie hamlet and hung arouud for an hour or two. Then they disappeared and were not seen again until the train had stopped and was starting out, whon one of them appeared on the track ahead, signalling the engineer to stop. Engineer Honer pulled out the throttlo and sent the train through. As it pass.' l the signal light, a half dozen unmask ■ l ,mon stood there, revolver in hand, and i took shots at the locomotive cab. Firem i;i Cole received a bullet through the u i and is serlously woimded. The inen wer i evidently new at the businese. The railway officials are exertlng themselves to apprehend the would-be robbers.
