Denvek, Doe. 3. - Governor Waite has made a reply to a petition f roin the business men of Denver asking that gambling housos be reopenud bocauso they keep money in oirculation. In his communication the governor ttttacksthose whosigned tlie petition, and says that the Denver clergy were in league w ith the worst element before election to defeat Mm because he had endeavorod to suppress gambling. Ho adds: "The religión suntlment of Denrer may be correct iu opposing gnmbling; and lewdness in the city, but they have been eiceedingly tardy in their mauifestations. He tlien recuuncs the trouble at Uenver between himaeK and the polioe boarel when he called out the troopa, saying that he removed the pólice board beoause they protected gambling, and says that "a district court in the interest of the gamblera enjoined tlie govornor from the cxercise of his eonstitutional rights. The issue was gharply deflned between thegamblers, and the governor who called out. the mllitla oí the state to suppress InsUrreotion. Now, wliere were the clorgy of Denver, the Y. M. C. A., and tho W. C. T. CJ. and the Prohibitlonists iii this fíghfí They were deiid against the governor. The exceptions are so small and insignificant as to be uuworthy of notice."
