Last Monclay officers here were notified that Wm. Burns and "Dodger" Keegan, of Ann Arbor, were wanted at Grand Rapids, for a burglary and larceny committed there August 22, 1892, and inquiring if they were here and if so to arrest them. Officers Peterson and Armbruster made the arrest and Wednesday a Grand Rapids deputy sheriff took the young men away on a warrant. The story of the affair goes as follows: On the above date, Wm. Burns, his brother Ed. Burns, and "Podger" Keegan, entered a house near Grand Rapids and secured plunder. Their presence was detected by the owner of the house who was alone, but plucky. He arose and armed with a hammer investigated. He caught sight of "Reddy" (Wiliam) Burns and let drive, knocking him down the basement stairs, disabling him. Ed. Burns then grappled with the householder and a fierce fight ensued in which the defender of his house had a wrist broken and the burglars escaped. Lt appears that friends of the party afterward leaked something of what they knew and the arrests tollowed. Ed. Burns had already been arrested and is also in ja.il at Grand Rapids.
