HlBOSHIMA, Jan. 21.- General Nodzu, eommander of the flrst Japanese army, telegraps as follows: ' 'The.Ghinese commenced an atutek on Hai Chang at 8 o'clock on the morning of Jan. 17, advaucing from three routes. At about noon they extended their front flve miles, coming within 1,500 motres of our advance line. The third army división, after maintaining the defense until 4 o'clock in the afternoon, assumed the offensive and attacked the enemy's right wing.
