LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 21. - C. E. Hydes, local agent of lhe Meraphis, New Orlcans and Cincinnati Packet company, has returned f rom Stephensport, Ky. Stephons port is over twenty miles f rom tho scène of the disaster and there is no telographic coinmunication between these points. He roports that thcre were on y nine passengere aboard the steamcr when she went down and it is believed that none of them were lost. Tho boat had a full crew of about fifty men. Tho latest information obtainablo is to the effect that the only persons lost wero roustabouts. Tho number is not bélioved to be over flve. The boat and cargo will be a total loss. She was valued at ?40,0tO. Hor cabin capacity was fifty rooms and she had a freight capacity of 1,800 toas. Among the passengers were Caspor Whitehead, stock dealer, Logansport, Ind , and a man from New Albany, Ind. The boat was running about twenty miles an hour and on account of the swii't current got away from the pilot's control as she was roumling Bullocks Point. She orashed into the rocks and soori went to piceos.
