New Yokk, Feb. 11.- The lifo-saving crew from the Lone Hill station, on the Great South beach, opposite Eastport, L. I., were out at dayoreak and down the beach in the tooth of the storm to makc ono more attompt to rcáoh the men lashed and f rozen iu the rigging of an unknown wrecked sohooncr. When the lifesavers had Ie ft previously sevon men were still hanging in the rigging, ono having dropped into the sca. As the icy wind had not abated and as the wavcs wero washiug over tho grounded wreek, the life-savers leffc that the men surely must be dead. Captain Baker fixed his glass upon the ice-draped rigging of the wreek. The seven fornis still hung there, not one having fallen during the night. But three of the men were hmging head down. Kvidently they had lashed their legs when they went np in the rigging to escape the fury of the deck. During the night they had dicd and the flngers relaxing the bodies had fallen, hanging by the kn;es. The life-savers tried to launch the llfeboat, but tho shors ico made that effort vain. The life line was theu flred into the rigging. There it hung with a certainty of lile to those who would reach it, and ie was within a few feet of each of the tour upright figures. Soon the life-savers saw one of the men stirring. He painfully and slowly disentahgled himself from the liishings and startod over to wards the Une. He took a few steps downward, pausod, hesitated, almost feil and climbed back to the snrer supports he had left. In few moments anothcr man beg.'in to work himself loose and succoeding, set out in a slow, stiff fashion that was painful to seo. He got a little f arther down than the iirst man and thou he, too, stopped. He almost lost bis balance, regained his hold, remounted and wrapped himself in the cords of ti. e rigging in the place he had left. The cannon was flred again, and agaiu tho line flew into the rigging near euough for eithor of the men to have reached it. But ucither of tho two stirred this time. Captain Baker could see their eyes turned toward the shore, but their blackened faces were exprcssionless. Tho last line was tlred about midday, and from that time until dark the lil'o-savers, sheltered by the mounds of ice, watched and triod to think of some way of reaching the 8chüoner. At dark they went back to their station again. The lase gloam of duy showed the seven figures stiü hanging, three head downward, four uprigbt and withenough life in themto mako the release from their horrible living torab a Platter of hours. Later- The life-saving crew has maiiaged to reach the wreek and sa vod two uien - S. J. Nelson and Wilüam Stevens. Ali the others are dead.
