a. young man ot tms city purehased ten dollars' worth of oxpericnce írorn Uucle Sam this week. The price seemed pretty high but in after years he will probably look back on the affair and couclude that bis experienoe was pretty cheap after all. The natioual government is a jealous ono and especially is it severo in matters connectod with tho mail service. Notwithstanding tho fact that what this young mau did as :mmbers of other citizens do daily, just to save a cent or two, and in total ignoranco of tlie fact that thcy are violating a law and laying theinselves liable to a fine or imprisonment. This youn;; man whose name the Arfius withholds, is of a saving disposición aud thinking Únele Sam would never kauw it, put a note inside of a newspaper which he mailed to a friertd, paying postage only at the newspaper rate. The at the destination of the paper, was of an inquiring disposition and took a peep inside. He discovered the note and reported the violation of the postal laws to the authorities, and as a result, Postoffice Inspector Parsell visited Ann Arbor on Wednesday and called on the young man who sent the paper. He explained to him the violation of the law and notified him that unless the yonug man contributed $10 towards paying the expenses of running Uucle Sam's govemment, he would be placed nnder arrest and given an opportunity to explain "whyhe did it" before the United States court at Detroit. The yonug man, although he violated the law in iguorance, concluded that he didn't want to take the Detroit trip. He arrived at another conclusión and ! is advising all his friends to follow his j example - when he has a letter to write to take it to the post-offlee and pay letter postage on it. He thinks this lutter course will be good ünanceermg for that f 10 bill would have paid for more two ! cent stamps that he would use in : ting letters in the nekt live yoars. The j penalty fixed for such violatious of the j law as this is an unvarying one of $10. j
