Rocently thero was an eclipse of the electric light at Elm Road Baptist ohapel, Southsea.and, curiously enough, the pastor had chosen for his texts, Proverbs lxxiv, 20, "The candle of the wicked shall be put out, " and Psalm xvii, 28, "For thou wilt light my candle; the Lord my God wül enlighten my darkness, " a coinbination rather crnel to the electrio light, for when the lights went ont soma of the congregation went out also and obtaiued candles and laraps, whcreupon service proceeded. Tha pastor could not conveniently change his tests in conscquence of what had happened, and he may huve been prepared lor thé general titter which followed their annouucenicut.
