Ono of the popular amusements of Siam is fish figbting, just as horse raoing holds a bigh plaoe in England. The two lighting fish aro placed in a huge bottle together, and they proceed to take each other's measure, shoulder up to each other in schoolboy fasbion and back and push around the "ring," the sinall fins vibrating rapidly a!l the time, and each little being quiveriug with excitemtnt aud wrath. This goea on for some minuten, until, as tJio speotatora are growing impatient, one fish suddeiijy makcs a dart and a bite at bis advorsary's tail. Henceforth tbero is no hesitation until one or other gives in. The Sirmeso back their fish just as monay is staked on horses hero, and thcn the battle is oontinued until oue fish is chased around the bottle by tho other. Bnt tbis is nsually an affair of an hour and freqnently throe or foux. The fish are roated specially for fighting and display wonderful pluck and determiuation. Tho tail is the part which shows most damage, although it is very easily torn, but a good grip on the sule fin is very efifectiva They display considerable agility in evading thoir oppouent's mouth and also iu snndenly twisting round and taking a piece ont of its tail. In 20 minutes or so these appendages, which looked so bravo and brigbt as they startid to tho frav, aro torn to bous.
