Stdttgaut, Ark., June 18.- A fishing party conslsting of a Mr. Thomas and another man, their wives and three children. camping on White river flve miles below St. Charles, were attitcked by toughs, thoir tent shot into, one woman and child killed, and a man and boy seriously wounded. John Kemp, one of the toughs, was killed by Thomas. Littlk Rock, June 13.- A most flendish orime has been cnmmittedat Willis Landing, on White River, a bout flve miles from St. Charles, Ark., the details of which have just reaohed this city Maddened by drink and lmpelled by a deslre to revenge 85 lmaginary wrong John Kemp, with a party of friends, flred a volley of gunshota )nto a tent fllled with defenseless women and children. killing one womar and a boy outright, and fatally injuring a littlo girl. Hrutos Open Fire on the Tent. For some time a party of fl9hermen conslsting of two families, one named Thom as. and another unknown, have been camping in a tent at Willis Landing. Farmers in the noighborhood accused the fishermen of killing their hogs. One day last week Kemp went to the tent, and ia theabsenue of Thomas and nis companioa used vile language to the women of the party. A warrant for Kemp's arrest was afterward3 sworn out by Thomas, but was never served. Sunday afternooa Kemp and six or seven coinpanions, all under the ïnüuence oL liquor, rode up to the tent, and without waiting to leain who was wilhin began pouring u volley of ghot through the canvas. "One of the women received a load oL buckshot in the breast, killing her instantly; a boy was literally shot to pieces, and a girl fearfully wounded, her death oocurring shortly afterward. One of the flshermen was shot through the ankle, rendering amputation of that member neoessary. Thomas secured the only gun in the tent and fired upon Kemp, kilüng hlm instantly. After that the others of the assailing party fled. The coroner is Inveetigating and arrests will likely be made.
