MlNNEAPOLlS, June 30. - Harry Hayward's life hung upon a vory slendei thread. Contrary to popular belief it wae entirely within the discretion oL the supreme oourt to have refused a stay. In fchat oase he would have been executed tomorrow. The Hayward case was preeented to the judges in chambers. It was carefully' considered (or two or three hours, but a Btay of thirty days was flnally granted upon condition that the uase be argued this terra. The term will come to an end July 3. The probability is that a new trial will be refused. In that case Governor Clough will at onoe fiĆ a new day for carrying out the penalty pronounced by the district court, and it lsaltogether likely thai the condemned man will be executed some time during the month of July.
