Citric acid, the active principie of limes and lenaons, was first extracted by Sebéele. It is found in considerable qnantities in many other fruits besides these, the acid of coinmerce being. it is said, extacted froni almost any fruit, the cheapness being the niain factor in seclusion. Sulphuric and nitric acids were known to Geber, the alchemist, in the eighth century.
