Col. Thomas E. Kuox, the artist aud irt critic of Dnudee, was registered at ihe Cook house ou Monday. Col. Kuox pent four hours iu looking over the Liewia eolleotion of paiutiugs aud statiary in the university. He found maiiy ,vell knowu artists represented. He ;hinks that the Uuviersity of Michigan ias now a start iu this valuable eollec;iou, whiob, if followed up by an art ichool, will make Anu Arbor oue of the irt centers of Auierioa. What is needed is a plain fire-proof buidiug, and an irtist who is also a good business rnau. rhen oue of the greatest art schools in America can be built up. A good man vvith the necessary work could arrange great art loan exhibits, which would bring thousands of visitors to the university. The exhibit in Cleveland two y-ears ago netted over $20,000 to the oause oL charity. Such au exhibit during the months of January and February would be a great e vent. The ra.ilroads would gladly give reduced fares. It could be made one of the events of the year.
