Lowther castle, near Penrith, is oue of the most iniposing mausions in the north. lts great terrace is nearly a inile in leugth aud is carried along the brink of a steep cliff , which overlooks a part of the park, with forest trees of immense growth and well replenished â– with deer. The park of the emperor of China, at Gehol, iscalled "the paradise of 10,000 trees." Lord Macartney, einbassador to China, in one of his letters says : ' ' We wandered iu it f or several hours, and yet were never weary of wandering, for certainly go rich, so varied, so beautifnl, so snblime a prospect our eyes had never beheld.
