Michigan leads all colleges and uni , versities in the of its student who are members of the present con gress recently conveued iu Washington Senator Cusbmau K. Davis. of Minne sota, gradnafed from the literary de partment in 1857. He was a classinat of ex-Congressman Levi T. Griffin, Jndge Georgë Landon. of Monroe, and Jerome Turuer, of Owosso. Ex-Senator Calvin S. Brice, of Ohio, was a student in the law departinent just afcer the war. Congressmao John C. Tarsney, of Missouri, was a classinate with Judge Edwin Burlingaiuc, of Grand Rapids, Hon. L. T. Durand, of Saginaw, and Judge MoAlvay, of Manistee. Congressrnan John T. Shai'urth, of Denver, entered the University at 18. He was assoc'ated with Judge Geo. S. Hosmer, of Dea'üit, Prof. Delosall, of Albiou, and Dr. Vaughan, of this city. Cougresstnan Edgar Wüsou, of Idaho, graduated from the Jaw clopartnient in 1884, and Cougressruan Kirkpatrick, of Kansas, was a law in the class of '68. Congressinan Geo. D Micklejohu, of Nebraska, was a meinber of the law class of '80. Representativo Townes, cf Minnesota, is a good exarnple of the hustler. He was a gradúate in the law dpeartment here and when he went to Duluth he irumediately caught on politically and bpcame a heavy weight although but a young man. He made a hard fight for his nomination in the republiuan conveution and his speeohes in the campaign were pronounoed to be as good as anybody ever made iu the Duluth locality.
