Old Marriage Ceremony

JPolynesia is probably the only place in the wor]d where the marriage feast takes place without, the presence of the bridegroom. For some unexplained reason the young man is "sent into the bush" when negotiations are opeued with the faruily of his bride, and he remains there during the snbsequent festivities. It is onlywhen the guestshave departed and the girl is left alone with his parents that messengers are dispatched for him. Meekness is imperfect if it be not both active and passive, leading us to Eubdue our own passious and resentments, as wel] as to bear patiently the passious and resentments of others. -
