It is unquestiouably a fact thafc the tnajority of tho young mon of the Jand re not at the present time in the church and active iu ber work. Figures are of ten cited to ünow the proportion of those who are not Christians as compared with those who are professed followers of Christ. Whoever is intimately acquainted with the young men of any locality knows enough of théir practices to make his heart sick with sorrow and to arouse him to wam them of their danger. But there is encouragernent to be had from a comparison of matters as they now are with the conditiou of thiugs at the opening of the centuty. At that time iufidelity was open, bold aud predominant among the yonng men of this country. In the collegos the Christians were very few, being the rare exceptions to the general rule. Those studying for the ministry were conspicuous by their rarity. Open vioe abounded. Now there are multitudes of the most talented young men active in churoh work. The Young Men'sChristian association bas become one of the powerful agencies eyerywhere recognized in the country as making for righteousness. Our colleges ljave changed in moral tone, so that the Christian men among the students form a large and iufluential company, who deeply affect the life and tone of the whole body. The young people's societies in the churches are surely changing the type of young life, making it purer, more refined, happier, more helpful and Christlike. Visions of a better day rise before the eyes of our young men. Ohrist is their worthy leader.
