Washington, Feb. 13 - The possiblo uses of the new process of photography, involving the application of the cathode rays in deterniining the existence of secret flaws in metáis, are now about to be tested thoroughly at the Carnegio works, where a large amount of naval construction is under way. The propor appara,tus lias been secured, and the experts there are now at work to demónstrate whether or not the new rays will penotrate thiok bodiea of metal. If this c;m be done the importance of the process, froni an industrial standpoint, can scarcely be overestimated. It will be possible to secure an exact knowledge of the nature of great guns without running the risk of explosiona; defects in the shafts of ocean steamers can be developed bef ore the shafts break and thereby cause loss of life and property, and steel castings used for Btructural purposes can be accurately tested before being put in place.
