Ishpeming, Mich., April 16.- A number of families at Cleveland, a small mining town near here, narrowly escaped doath by drowning. A large pond containing aboufc flfty feet of water broke through the embankmeat of the South Shore railway traoks and tore a path through a residence district. The water rose to a hight of ten feet wlthin five minutes, driving the affrighted people before it. Many escaped by taking refuge on the upper stories of their houses.
