A fatal accident occurrerï at the Michigan Central depot in Ypsilanti, Ylonday afternoon about 5 o'clock, rom the elïects of which Frank E. Poster, conductor oh the switch engine n the Ypsilanti yards, lost his life. At the time of the accident he was iding on the way car and when oppoite the telegraph office he jumped i ff he aar to run in and report, so that by he time the engine had ïeached the witch and backed up again he would ie ready to go ahead without delay. ?he sidewalk walk was damp trom the ■ain and quite slippery, and Mr. Foster ïaving on rubber boots did not gnin a ure footing. He slipped and feil underneath the rapidly movinc; cars and ,-hree freight cars, which were behind he way car, passed over his legs. Vhen picked up Ie was frightfuliy mangled, one leg being crushed above he knee and the other near the ankle. He was removed to his home on Jrove street, where Drs. Batwell and lull performed a doublé amputation, th of his legs being removed. After he operation he rallied and recoglized and spoke to his family and riends who had gathered about, but soon lost consciousness and gradually sank until Tuesday morning about 3 o'clock, when he nassed away. A peculiar feature of the sad occnrance was, that Mr. Foster had a presentiment that something would happen to him. The day before the accident he was in conversation with .ke Davis. He said "I have been on the road a long time, Ike, and I ïave never got 'pinched' yet, but I 'eel it that my time is coming." But i few hours af terwards his words had come true. The funeral services were held yes;erday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and were argely attended. Mr. Foster leaves a wit'e aud two daughters. He had a 52,000 life insurance policy in the Maccabees and S2,000 in the Brotherhood of Conductors He was a ple&sant, kindly mau and was greatly respected.
