Ou Wedneseiay afternoon about 4 o'clock, oue of the oldest nien as well as one of the oldest residents of this connty died at his home 25 N. Uuiversity ave. Jeremiah Day Williams is the Dame of the mau who has passed away and he was well known to all the old piorieers of the connty. At the time of his death Mr. Williams was 81 years and 1 1 days old. The canse of his demise was heart disease. Mr. Williams was born iu Orange county, New York, May 2, 1815, and he was the seventh of a family of ten childreu. In 1828 his father John Williams emigrated from New York state to the territory of Michigan and settled in the township of Webster, Washtenaw county. When his father came to this connty Jeremiah was in his 13th year and he was reared on and did his ful share of the work of clearing aud culti vating the farm which is now divided into four farms. Before he carne to Michigan he attended the school in New York stato tought by Millard;Fill more. Iu 1834 a schoolhouse was built in Webster iu the neighborhood in which his farnily lived aud this he atteuded. Subsequeutly he attended a select school and afterwards au my in Aan Arbor. In 1839 be was appointed postmaster of Webster township, in which capaoity he served íor two years. The same year he was eleoted town treasurer and froin that time until he carne to reside in this city in 1877 he served the peopleeontiuuously in some official capacity or other. In 18Ö4 he was elected representativa to the state legislatura from the fifth district of Washtenaw oonnty and served his coustitueuts faithfully and well. In 1841-3 he travelled through the greater portion of the New England and Middle states and in 1843 was married to bis flrst wife.Miss Frauces B. Strrith, at China, St. Clair county. She lived but a short time and May 13, 1846, married Miss Jane L. Stark, of Webster, wbo, with their five children, Mrs. J. S. Woodruff, of Ludington; Eugene C, of Rectamotion, Colo., Rev. C. Scott Williams, a Presbyterian rnissionary in Mexico; Rev. Mark W. Williams, of Burean, 111., and Mrs.Wm.Blair.of thia city.snrvive him. The funeral services will be held at his late residence Saturday raorning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. 3. W. Bradshaw, pastor of the Congregational church, of which the deceased was a meruber, officiating. His remains will be interred in the Webster churchyard.
