The Willis correspondent of the Ypsilantian speakiug of the death of au old soldier of Surnpter township says: 'He carried on his person wounds tbat established his claim of participant in the libertios for which he fought. His was a devotiou that enlarges as we contémplate the hardships that he eudured while battling for the rigbt. Earnestoess of purpose he cariied to the front where among compauions in arms he braved the dangers of the camp and the deadly missiles of the battle field, that his country and its liberties might remain. We shall miss his tottering steps and his far-away look that seemed to be taking in the grandeur and glory of the better world. " And he wound up a ' description of the oyclone of May 14 with the folloviug poetical effusion : "The Leviathan of the air With tongue of flame Did fearful work, Butwhy complain? The work it did Was not rtone ia wrath; For God was in The cyclone's path."
