The Republican congressional conventiou for the seooud district of Michigan was held at Jackson, Wednesday, the meeting beiug oalled to order by Harry A. Conaut, chairinan of the cougressional eommittee, who named Grant Fellows, of HudaQnvrior temporary chairinan. C. E. Ulricksoo, of Jackson, was made temporary secretary. The differeut cointuittees appointed were as follows : Credentials - Jacksou, C. H. Smith; Lenawee, C. S. Valeutine; Mouroe, B. D. Vau Ocker; Washtenaw, Williani Jndsou ; Wayne, P. T. Bird. Permanent organizatiou - Jackson, W. E. Kennedy; Lenawee, B. F. Graves; Mouroe, D. C. Speers; Washtenaw, F. K. Owen; Wayne, W. H. Lacey. Resolutious- Jackson, T. A. Dailey; Leuawee, Geo. B. Horton ; Monroe, H. A. Lockwood ; Washtenaw, H. G. Prettyman ; Wayne, Dr. J. M. Collier. The couvention adjourned tintil after dinner and at 1 :45 reassembled. The temporary orgauization was made permanent and the committee on credeutials reported the delegations full. Burtou Parker, of Monroe, then took the floor and presented the name of Hon. Geo. Spalding, as the repoblican candidate for congress for the second district. He said Mr. Spalding was a bi-metallist aud believed in the use of gold, silver and paper money based on a sound standard. Dr. O. J. R. Hanna, of Jackson, seoonded the nominatiou, and pledged the support of Jaokson county to Spalding. B. H. Barker, of Lena wee, made a few moinents' speech and said tbat Lenawee republioans would work for his election. W. W. Wedemeyer, of Wasbtenaw, and Mr. Campbell, nf Wayne, also endorsad Gen Spalding. A rising vote was then taken and he was declared tbe unan iiuous choice of the oonventiou. Gen. Spalding tben spoke for nearly an hour. He said he stood squarely on the St. Louis platform but he was a birnetallist. Hon. James O'Donnell followed with a brief, hnmorous speech in which he pledged his hearty support to the candidates nominated at the state convention, whoever they might be, and the convention adjourned.
