Johu O'Grady, an employee on the street raihvay, was the defendaut iu Justice Pond's conrt on Tuesday afteruoon and Wednesday rnorning, ou a oharge cf rape preferred against him by Nona Guruey, a little girl 16 yoars old. The evideuce of the girl showed that she had kuown O'ürady about two years and had kept eompany with him f or less thau a year ; that he had asked her to marry him and she had agreed to do so. He had several times asked her to go to Dexter with him, aart. oil three occasions had asked her to walk with him. She had refused all these invitatiüns excepfc olie ou Sunday eveuiug, Sept. 6, when she had gone and on au unfreqnented street leadiug off between Fouutain aud W. Hnron sts., he had oriminally assanlted her, He had intimidated her by threats of killiug her and holding a revolver uuder hef chin, and begniled her with promises of marriage after the oconrreuce, so that she had uot told auy member of her family about the matter uutil Tnesday, Sept. 15, when her mother had round blood stains ou her olothiug, and had questioned her about them. Ou thut day sbe agaiu saw O'ürady aud he told her ho conld uot niarry ber as he was already married to Clara Mead. She weut to bis mother aud to bis pastor about the matter. The former told lier if sbe was iu trouble she must bear it but ber son coúld not marry her. The latter had protuised to see ü'Grady about the trouble but before this conld be doue she had told her mother aud sister all the oiroumstauces aud a week ago yeaterday swore out the complaiat agaiust O'Grady. The prosecution was couducted by Prosecutirig Attoruey Raudall. Attoruey Artbur Brown was couusel for the defeudaut. He subjeoted Miss Guruey to a vigorous oross-examiuatiou, but failed to shake hei testimouy iu auy material mauuer. At the couolusiou of the exruiuatiou O'Grady was bound over to toe circuit court in S!Ï5O bail.
