At tbs close of the republicau county convention Thnrsday of lasi week, the representative convention for the fïrst legislatve district assem bied in the council chatnber. C. E. Hiscock, of Arm Arbor, was made chairman anci John Kalnibacb, of Chelsea, secretary. W. W. Wedemeyer narned Hou. A. J. Sawyer for the nomination for representative. Emory E. Leiand, of Northfield, was also named, but deolined. The nomination of Mr. Sawyer was then made onanimous. Mr. Sawyer made a strong speech in acceptiug tne nomiuation. Geo. iá. Wheeler submitted the following resolution which carried : "Rp.solved, That our oandidate for the Jegislature from the flrst represeutative district of the oounty of Washtenaw he and is hereby instructed to use if elected his best efforts to reduce the tasatiou of tbis state to the lowest possible limit cousistent with the ecouomical administration of the state government. "Resolved, That he use his best efforts to compel the corporations of tbis state to bear au eqnitable share of the tases of the state."
