Portsmouth. N. H.. Sept. 29 .- Rev. Mr. Washburn of Fa'mouth, Mass., preached at the North Congreg-ational churoh Sunday and causea a sensation by his violent denunciation of Sunday newspapers. He purchased a Boston paper on the street. and frcm his pulpit read extracts and inveighed againsl it and other newspapers of a kind. He then tore it sheet by sheet and threw it in front of the pulpit with a dramatic gesture. saying that while the saloon slays its thousands the Sunday nevvspaper is far more reaching. Though not as choice as embroidery, linen is now sometimes marked with indelible iuk in a fashion so artistic that it looks like etching, as the crests and letters of any size in any text are done to order. It is noted that the women of the royal families of Enrope are on the average inuch stronger raeutally and physically than the men. The state conventions of all four political parties in Idaho have iudorsed the womau suffrage amendment. In Bavaria a woman cannot appear in public on a bicyole unless she has a sertifioate for efficiency.
