The board of canvassers for Washtenaw oonnty, consisting of Judge J. Willard Babbitt. H. G. Prettymau aud Arthur Brown, met shortly before noon on Tuesday, iu the oouuty clerk's office to canvass the votes cast in the recent electioQ aDd to grant certiflcates to those candidates who had received the largest nnmber of votes. Judge Babbitt was cbosen as chairnaau. Williatn Dasingbnrg, the present county clerk, aud who was on the face of the returns beaten by Jacob F. Schuh, by a smal! majority, filed a petifcion with the board asking for a reoonut of the vote in the 32 voting preoinots of the oonnty at the same time depositing the $100 required by law in such oases. It is not auticipated, however, that the recount, which commenced yesterday afteruoon, will alter the returns enough to give him the election, as in such cases both sides to the question generally reap some minor benefit to each. It was at first expected that Hirarn Lighthall, Mr. Judson's opponent for sheriff, would also ask for a recount, but. he very wisely deoiried not to do so, confiuing nis attention in the matter to a carefnl checkiug up of the votes cast for sheriff, while the Dansingburg recount is being made. In this he will be ably secouded by Sheriff Jndson and unless some glaring discrepancy is discevered, Mr. Lighthall will make no effort to have a recount. AttorneyR are on hand in the interest of the variĆ³os parties. Mr. Dansingburg is repieseuted by Prof. J. C. Knowltou, Mr. Lighthall by M. J. Lehman. Jacob P. Sobuh by E. B. Nurris, while Sheriff Judson is unrepresented. The board cumpleted the tabulation of the official returns of the vote in the county at dood yesterday, but did not make any footings, so che Argns is un able to give the official statement in this issne. In the afternoon the board assembled in the supervisors, room and started in to reconnt the votes of 'the seveu wards of the city of Ann Arbor, the ballot boxes aud keys having been brougbt in ou the request of Mr. Knowlton.lor Mr. Dansingburg. Before the boxes were opener! E. B. Norris, for Mr. Schnh, eutered a formal protest against the recount, which was replied to by Mr. Knowlton, supporting the right of the board to reoouut the votes. Tbe vork of reeountiug tben begau aDd is still pursuing its weary leugth aloug and wil) do so nntil the whole 11,000 and over votes cast iu the conuty at the eleotion have been inspected.
