Registry Of Deaths

L. Conners, of Detroit; George Rauney, of Lansing; Eugene Boise, of G-rand Rapids; W. J. Herdrnan, of Ann Arbor and Henry A. Baker, of Lansing, appointed by the state medical society for the purpose, have drafted a bilí for an improved plan of registering deaths. It will be presented to the legislature at the coming session. The present system is defective, expensive and inaconrate, in that it provides that every entry of death be copied three times and twice by the oounty clerk, thus increasirig the chances for making errors. Two years also elapse after deaths before reports relating to thern appear. The proposed improved plan is as follows: Ij Certificates of deatb to be signed by physioians as to the cause of deatb. At presont such certifloates are reqnired only in certain cities by local charters or ordinannes, not by state law. 2. Burial or removal permits to be iasued by the looal registrar, who is clerk or bealth oflicer of the township, village or city. ii. The registrar to record each certiflcate iu his register of deaths. 4. The registrar to mail monthly reports to the secretary of state, who is to preserve, index and compile them, and publish information in monthly bulletins, and also in bis annual registration report.
