Washington. Jan. 26. - General Willlam Prioe Craighill, chief of enginners, after a most brilliant military and scientiflc record, will bè retired next Monday on his own application, under the forty years' service law. The retirement will leave to the president the filling of a most desirable post. It Is not yet known upon whom the choice will fall, but the general opinión seems to be that it will be between Colonel John M. Wilson, now división engineer of the northeast and superintendent of public buildings and grounds in Washington and Colonel H. M. Robert, división engineer at New York.
