Leavenworth, Kan., Feb. 2.- Congressman "Warner of Illinois, member of the congressional committee investigating Governor A. J. Smith's management of the soldiere' home here, has arrived in Leavenworth, and is hearing estimony both corroborative and in rebuttal to that given before the committee in Washington recently by Miers Powell, who charged Governor Smith with drunkenness, with treating the inmates harshly, and compelling them to ake the Keeley cure. Mr. Warner examined several witnesses. Veteran Louis Heilich. in a measure, corroborated the testimony given by Powell. Governor Smith caused several attendants from the hospital to be examined as to the ï 1 1 - treatment alleged by Powell when he was an inmate of that part of the home. They all testifled that Powell had' been well treated. Several other witnesses were examined. There was some testimony corroborative of that given by Powell, but in the main the evidence vas favorable to Governor Smith.
