The university debate between the literary and law department representatives at university hall Satarday nigbt, was the stroogest that has been held in reuent years. The attendanoe was so poor, bowever, that Hon. Thos. W. Palmer, of Detroit, who acted as chairman, feit ccmpelled to oall attenHou to the lack of interest that was ovidently shown in botb departments particalarly, and the whole college generally, on such an important oooasion. The jndges were Robert Gibbons, of Detroit, Prinoipal Boone, of Ypsilanti Hon. A. J. Sawyer and Mr. Coler, of Ann Arbor. When their markings were annonnoed it was fonnd that the contestants stood in the following order of merit: Cbandler, Lafchers, Carmody, Abbott, O'Leary, Adams, and the three first named will represent the Oratorical Assoóiation in the debate with Chicago. The faculty committee has choseu the negative side of the question in the debate.
