Wbile coacbing the pitchers Thttrsday afternoon of last week, Coach Watkin was bit nnder the left eye by a bal carelessly thrown by an outsider, and hadly hnrfc. Hereafter only the candi dates will be allowed to practica in the cage. President Henry Wade Rogers, of Northwestern Uuiversity, who deliver ed the Washington 's Birtbday address to the law students, was given a check for $150 for bis servioes. He has seni the cheok back as a present to the womens' gymnasium fund. The men who are to represent Chioago in the debate with Michigan at University hall tonigbt are Messrs King, Barker and Watson. Mr. King is a gradúate student, having received bis bachelor's degree at Toronto Univer8ity. His fellow debaters are both uudergraduates. At the meeting of the university Republican Club in Newberry hall, Saturday, tbe following officers were eleoted : President, G. P. McCallum, of TbompsoD, Mioh. ; flrst vice-president, Lloyd Whitman, of Ann Arbor; Second vice-persident, E. A.. Martiudale, of Hillsdale; seoretary, F. R. Miller, of Hillsdale, treasurer, J. Q. Adams, of Aun Arbor. Delegates to the national oonvention of repulbicau clubs, which is to be held in Minneapolis next April, were elected as follows: ,T. D. Whetmore, of Florida; G. R. Hadley, of Michigan, W. T. Hosner, of Michigan ; P. P. Sadler, of Illinois; F. F. Freeman, of Oregon ; A. L. Davis, of South Dakota; C. S. Abbott, of Michigan. Alteraates, G. B. Harrison, of Kansas; A. P. Cole, of Miohican; R. M. Dyo, of Uhio; P. R. Furlong, of Massaohnsetts. The olnb has a membershíp of 1,350. Prof. E. F. Johnson retorned Friday evening from his trip to the inangutation of President McKinley at Washington and a tour of inspeotion of 11 different law schools. He was well reoeived at eaoh of the ooileges and every opportunity was afforded hira for investigating their several methods of instrnction, etc. In uone of them, however, oatside of Harvard, did he find as mnch work done as is done in the University of Miohigan, and even there he found muoh of th enthusiasm and energy whioh characterizes the law sobool of the ü. of M. lacking.. He fonnd many things in otber schools wbich might profitably be incorporated into our own, but many more in our school whicb vponld be advantageous to our sisters in the east. He found few faculties the equal of Miohigan 's law facalty, and heard everywhere words of higbest praise for the U. of M. law school.
