Kenator Campbell's bill i" the senate to allow Ann Arbor to bond itself for $100,000 to build an art gallery, which was introduced -without the sanction or knowledge of the residents of the city, has come in for no small amount of criticism and is generally looked upou as a peeuliarly absurd ideii to have originated in that gentleman's "ïam O'Shanter" bonnet, received the attention of the aldermen, and the following resolution was passed without a dissenting vote: "Resolved, That Ilon. A. J. Sawyer, our representative in the state legislature, be requested to use his infiuence to defeat the bill now pending in in the legislature in reference to granting the city of Ann Arbor permission to issue bonds to the amount of $100,000 for the purpose of erecting a building for the art gallery; that Mr. Sawyer be further requested to state to the legislature that the passage of said bill lias never been asked for either by the city of Ann Arbor or by the university authorities."
