The Zion Lutheran cbnrcb Sunday sohool had a largely attened and enjoya' ble picnic at Relief Park yesterdaj afternoon. A Sunday si:bool excnreion to Toledc is being talked np by the Sunday schools of Saline, Ann Arbor, Daudee, Azalia and Milan. On Taesday tnorning next Co. A, M. N. G., will leare for Camp Pingree at Island Lake, near Brighton, under command of Capt. A. C. Pack. Nansen, thu great Arctic explorar, will be one of the attractions for the Students' Lecture Associatioo course next winter. The contract was closed Tuesday. A surprise party was given to Miss Bertha Sohleicher last evening at her sister's home on W. Huron st., it being her birthday. The friends who were present had a very pleasant time. Tbe followiug are tbe amounts taken in at the tax office duriug the third week that taxes have been received : Thursday, f547. 29; Friday, $479.41; Saturday, $408.93; Monday, $895.00 Tuesday,'81,063 99; Wednesday, $480.60; total, $3,875.82. . The work of renurnbering the houses of Ann Arbor has been seriously delayed by the dilatory action of tbe oontractor for the aluminum figures to be used in the work. At tbe meeting óf the boarc of publio %vorks WedDesday night, the clerk was ordered to notify Mr. Hunter tbat unless the numbers were ready, according to speciflcation, by Monday next, be would forfeit his contract. Work on the university eleotrio [ighting plant is being pushed rapidiy forward and nearly all the wiring is now finished. It is expeoted that the plant will be iu running order by the uiddle of September. Henry S. Caraart, professor of physics, bas the general supeiintendency of the work, and he is assisted by two practical workers, R. A. Alleu and J. W. Jones, who will be instructors here next year. Two big dynamos and one engine will be put into the present boiler house to run tbe plant.
