"Can the American makers establish a demand for the hose-pipe type of tire in this country?" The question is propounded by a writer in an EDglish paper, vrho then proceeds to answer in the nogative. "This is aquestion which seems to be agitating the minds of sorue of the people in the trade aoross the Atlantic Some of them seem disposed to make anysaorifice in order tooonvert the English rider to the 'hose-pipe, ' but I fear they will be grievously disappointed. This kind of tire does not suit the flinty roads of Great Britain, and we have learnt from experience how it laoks durability and resistance to puncture. If anything were ueeded to strengthen the uonvictions of the English riders that the hose-pipe tire is not suited to their reqnirements, it is the f act that ayear or twoagoone of the very best exatnples of that type of tire was exploited energetically in this country, and for a time seenaed likely to cairy all before it; but after it had been thoroughly pnt to the test on British roads it conld not face the ordeal, and the company formed to manufacture it was forced tomake a doubletube tire its leading speoialty. American makers catering for British bnyers will, therefore, be wise to consider thip undoubted fact very seriously. If they wisb to obtain a grip of the Englistí trade they must throw over their pet fad - the hose-pipe tire."
