London, Aug. 24. - An official dispatch from Simia announces Ihat Fort Maude, in the Khyber pass, has been captured by tha Afridis, after desperate flghtir.g. The garrison, which was ccmposed of native levies known as the Khyber riflea, retired with the Ioes of three men. The Afridis afterward burned the fort. The fate of Fort Ali-Musjid, which was simultaneciisly attacked by the Afridis, is not known. The British ofücer commanding at Jamarud moved a battery of artillery. escorted by the Fourth dragoons, to the mouth of the Khyber pass and shelled the enemy at a range of 3,200 yards. The Afridis retired, but the battery returned to Jamarud, the officer in command deeming it inadvisable to enter the pass. General Ellos will begin a concerted movement against the insurgent tribesmen immediately.
