Sneak thieves have been busy in Pittsfield for sorne time past to tbe great disconifort of the people who are victims of the uooturnal depredations. Thursday night of last week Qeorge Sperry's cellar was entered and a crook of butter, nne of lard, two pounds of beefsteak and sorue canned fruit were taken. The next eveoing Pred Hutzel's oellar was entered and about 11 pounds of butter and a qnantity of lard was taken. Froin another farmhouse they were frightened away the same night. It looks as thoogh someono was either layiug in a winter's sopply of eatables or else had a ready market for what they stole, as during the week Herman Reyer had 200 chickens stolen and N. C. Carpeuter had every chioken he owned exoept one stolen. All of the houses visited are on the motor line aud it behooves the residents on that road to keep a sbarp lookont for these nocturnal visitors.
