Germán sohool opened Tnesday. Mrs. Norton, of Jackson, is the gnest of Dr. and Mrs. Lynch. .7. A. Goodyear attended the carnival at Grand Rapids last week. The Southwestern Farmers' Club meets with B. G. English today. W. Burtleas and family have moved into their beautifnl home on Jefferson - st. Mrs. W. H. Stark, who is in Cinoinnati visitiug her son, expeots to be gone several weeks. Cari Wuerthner'went to ClevelaDd, Ohio, last Thursday for a few weeks' vieit with friends. The University Extensión Assooiation met at the home of the Missts Marie and Julia Kircbhofer Tuesday evening. Postmaster Bailey did not take possession of the post offioe on Monday as he intended on account of not having received the new post office furnitnre. „ The Wagner Male Quartette, of Grand Rapids, gave an entertainment at the M. E. church Monday evening, nnder the auspioes of the Epwoith League. Last Wednesday being the anniversary of William Cullen Bryant. The high school girls celebrated it in a very pleasing way. Onbekiiown to the boys they purohased a portrait of the poet 26x30 inches, and carried out a very interesting program. The boys were indeed surprised and the morning will ever be remembered by the pupils. The Alpha Sigma held their regular meeting Monday evening, The followïng program was carried out: Song; oration, Floyd Pardee; lecitation, Clyde Leeson; siraultaneous recitation, Cora Iveson and Ethel Smith ; essay, Elizabeth Nestel; piano solo, Mrs. H. Maoomber; debate: "Resolved tbat the railroads should be owned by the government" affirmative Fred Kapp, Elora Berger, negative, Frank Kramer, Beien Leeson; recitation, Lizzie Nebling; piano solo, Jessie Kimble.
