The fourth conoert in the Chora Union series to be given tbis evening will be a p8rformanoe of the "St Paal," Mendelssobn's greatest ohora work. This ia aaid advisedly, for while the "Elijah" is. in a senae, more dramatic from the point of view of the trmsiciau, "St. Panl" is greater. I is boped that this performance wil rauk with the memorable produotion o thfl !'EIijah" two yeare ago, whicb was one of the flnest ohoral concert ever given in Ann Arbor. The soloist are adnrirably adapted for the woik The soprano solos will be sung by Mis Afioe Bailey, of the Sohool of Mnsio wtooBe artistio worfc is well recognizet in Boston and Detroit, where she has held -prominent cbnroh positions. Her rematkabla singing ín the "Messiah' SHveral years ago will be remembered MiasBailey sang reoently in Milwau kee and we snbjoin one of the many eStrèiiiely favorable critioisms of her Wort. ■"Mis Alioe G. Bailey introducec herself a8 a songstress of high merit She retidered a series of sougs, entitlec "Eliland," by Alexander vod Fieltz. Tbey appeared iu a conoert program in tbis city for the first time. Miss Bai ley entaied into the spirit of each o: the songs With admirable correotnees Her deolamatlon, in addition, was fsnltless, her phrasiüg dslioate and her riab vocal resources enabled her to win thd nnqnalified approval of the andience. Her strength evidently lies in musical inspiration coupled with fine taste." Mrs. Ciements is od8 of the leading contraltos in Detroit, who has sung the alto part in tbe "St. Paul" very satisfactorily in Detroit Mr. Chas. B. Stevens bas suag several times in Ann Arbor, and will be remembored as having given a very refined, artistio interpratatiou of the tenor solos and recitativos in the "Eiijah." The prinoipal interest in tbis work, outside of the saperb ohorusea (wbioh by the way, wiil be rcagninoently snng) centers in the baritone part. This will be taken by Mt. L6WÍ8 Caropioa, of Chioago, an Englishman, reoeutl.y bass soloist of Darfaam Catbedral, and an oratorio singer of exceptional ability. Tbe Chicago Festival Orohestra wbich has made a good repntatíon in the we6t and oomes very higiily endorsed, will also be present. As Choral Joion subsrcibers realize, tbe problem of au orchestra for a midwinter oonoert 8 a serions one, and it is sincerely ïoped that the Chicago Festival Orcbestra ruay be the happy solntion of tbe difficnlfy.
