The concert by Sousa's band, Miss Mabel Reese Davies, soprano, and Miss Jennie Hoyle, violinist, at University hall Saturday evening, was the most popalar number in the whole S. L. A. conree. Standing room both downstairs and in tbe galiery was at a preminm and tbe andienoe was a most enthusiastio one. While tbe applanse tbat greeted tbe more classical selectious rendered was hearty and spontaueons, that whioii greeted Sonsa's marches and two steps when they were played was alttiost deafening, showing most conolusively tbat the popnlar taste is best pleased witb popnlar mnsic. At tbe sfcond namber in the program Sousa was presentad witb a fine boqnet of white carnations. Miss Davies, who sang most sweetly was also rewarded witb a fine boquet, bnt Miss Jeunie Hoyle whose beantifal playing on the violin cbarmed bei bearers so muoh tbat she was twice encored, was not fortnnate eoongb to possees a friend in tbe andience to give hér the boqnet ahe so ricbly deserved. Tbe applanse she received, howerer, amply made np for the lack of flowers. Eveiy number tbat was played was encored and tbe program of nine oumbers was lengtbened out to 21 Dnmbers.
