San Francisco, March 1. - The suicidal mania seized upon three women in this city in the last two days. While the ferryboat Encinal was making a trip to Oakland, Miss Grace Parker and Miss May Carillo made a melodramatic attempt at a doublé suicide. When opposite Goat island, the favorite jumping off place for the world-weary, the two young women wandered over to the starboard rail. Suddenly the passengers were horrified to see the young women leap upon the rail, and with hands clasped, plunged into the bay. Fortunately a boat's crew from the naval reserve sloop-of-war Marión succeeded in picking them up. The women were landed at Folsom street pier and conveyed to the ferry receiving hospital. They will recover. Miss Sophie Mellige. aged 26 years, a laundress. attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself head downward.
