A form of slavery has received the official sanction of the British government. When last year the 200,000 intoabitants of South África knowh as the Bechuana were disposed of 200,000 square miles of territory, the overnment did not know what to do with the natives. It was therefore decided to open a slave mart, and the Cape Times tells of the prices for which the blacks were aold. The natlrea were brought to Cape Town in batches of some 200 at a time and sold for periods of five years to those who wished cheap lator. Able-bodied men ■were sold for ten-shillings a month, and youths and women for seven and six pence a moüth ($2.50 per month for men and $1.87 for the youths and women).
