Among the multitude or stars nning the heaveus, about ten thousand have "been found to consist of at least two 6tars, and in many eses these companion stars are coupled together by their mutual attraction, so that they revolve around one another. As telescopes improve, the known number of doublé stars rapidly increases, and ome of those found in recent years are very remarkable. Since August, 1896, 500 new doublé stars have been diecovered in the southern hemisphere f the heavens at Mr. LowelFs observatory near Flagstaff, Arizona.
