Anioug the agricultural products that are credited with iucreased exportations during the past year one of the most conspicuous is flaxseed. The quantity sent abroad reached aa high as 4,713,747 bushels, with avalué of $3,850,835. Excellent accounts of the drought resisting qualitieu of the hairy or sand vetch and its adaptability toour climate have been reported to the department of agriculture f rom Washington, Nebraska, Georgia, New Mexico, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Pennsylvania. To replace the nitrogen taken away by crops or to increase the amount already present the Utah agricultural station recommends that a legnminous or pod hearing erop should be made a part of every rotation. The crops that inay be used are many, peas, beans, the clovers, including lucern, vetohes, etc. The importanoe of using only highly bred seed for sugar beets ia emphasized by an authority on the subject.
