On Wednesday evening Col. H. S. Dean, Major Harirson Sonle, Major Sid. W. Millar d and Capt. Chas. E, Hiscock, roembers of the civil board of Ann Arbor's military company, inspected Co. A , U. of M. Rifle, commanded by Capt. Magley. Well on to 1,000 people wituessed the inspectiou and drill and oheered tbe yonng men as they went through the different movements.in wbich the company showed innen proflciency. Short addresses by the members of the board followed. Major Soale said that he was surprised at tbe progresa made in one month and the proficieucy sbown in every mcvement. He advised thetu tnat the second cali bad been made and uot to let snch au opportunity go by. Col. Dean stated tbat the military Doard stood ready to do auytbing in its power to help the students in a military way. He cantioned them to remember :hat the prime requisitos of good soldiers are cleanliness, persistency and obedienoe. Mayor Hisoock closed by saying that if afforded him pleasnie to witness the stadents drilling on the oampns every night; that he feit snre if the oompany desired to go, Gov. Pingree wonld stand ready to receive them and tbat tbe y wonld be an honor to tbe oonntry, to tbe U. of M., and Michigan. Col. Dean, in the name of the board of regents, gave the oompany the privilege of raising and lowering the colors on the campas at snnrise and suuset.
