Chicago, May 20. - Sections of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin have been visited by a terrible tornado that caused the loss of many lives and great destruction to crops and buildings. The storm swept over Cedar, Clinton and Jackson counties in Iowa, crossed into Illincis, coming east as far as Elgin and Belvidere, and then struck north to Stevens Point and the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. The storm was first feit at Stanwood, Ia., shortly after 1 o'clock in the afternoon and from there swung up to Preston, where all the members of three families were crushed to death. At Riggs station the tornado claimed six more victims, and then started for Illinois. It crossed the river at Savanna, where it is reported that ten lives were lost and scores of buildings destroyed. From thence eastward its course was not marked, except at Pawpaw, with any loss of life, but property of great value was laid in ruins.
