South Bend, Ind., May 31.- George West, alias Charles Rivers, neither of which is believed to be his right name. sawed out of the St. Joseph county jall in this city anu escaped. West was serving a term of ten years in the Indiana penitentiary at Michigan City for robbing the bank at Bloomfield, Ind. He was brought here last February and tried for robbing the South Bend National bank of $15.000,' in broad daylight, on Dec. 7, 1893. The jury disagreed and he was retried last week, when the jury found him guilty. An indeterminate sentence of from one to fourteen years was given hirn.
