The Webster Farmers' Clnb held lts last meeting notil tbe fall at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smith in Ann Arbor town on Saturday last, and althoagh tbis time of the year is a bnsy one witb farmers and thnnder showere were a tbreatening quantity, tbe attendance was good, ruauy coming from qnitë a long distanoe. Tbe period beforetbedinnerhonr was spent in visiting. Wheu dinner was annonnoed all gatbered round tbe tables and enjoyed a most bountifal feast of good thiugs, inclnding plenty of ripe strawberries and rioh oream. Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their daughters did all in their power to ruake their gnests comfoitable and at home and succeeded emineutly well in doing so. After dinner tbe men folks took a walk over to Mr. Smith's peach orchard where they saw evidences of good cultivation aDd of a pleutifnl yield of fruit in spite of the curl leaf. The meeting of the clab was called to order at 2 o'clock on tbe grass plot in front of the house, Geo. E. Merrill presiding. Rev. G. E. Moorehouse offered prayer, the minutes of the last meeting were read and tben Miss May Smith gave a very hnmorousieoitation, "The Farmer and tbe Wheel." On motion of C. M. Starks tbe seoretary, Misa Julia Ball, was instruoted to send an invitation to the Salem Clnb to be present at the meeting of tbe Webster Club on Satnrday, Sept. 3, at tbe home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. son. Mrs. Louis Chamberlain, Misa Julia Ball and William E. Boyden were appointed a committee to make np a program for the oocasion. The matter of a club exhibit of farm prodncts at the Washtenaw Fair next September was quiokly decided in the negativo wben it was pnt to vote, after the ohilly reception it met under disoassion. Mies May Ball gave a reoitation "We have been weighed in the balances and have been fonnd wanting." The anbjeot for disonssion was "The doty of the farmer in referenoe to the temperanoe qnestion. " The disoussion was opened by Cyrus M. Starks and he was followed with remarks from Rev. Q. E. Moorebonse, Mr. Wing, of Scio, Miss Julia Ball and others, after whiob the meeting adjourned, but it was more than an bout after adjonrnment before the people left for tbeir bornes, on aooonnt of the rain whicb feil heavily.
