Deputy Sheriffs Canfield and Hnhn arrested the wrong man Satnrday. The mistake grew ontof a combination of cirouinstances. Officers were on track of a horse thief from Jaokson connty. Tbey expeoted to get him at Urania, bnt he left that place to walk to Pittsfield Junotion. When tbey got to the janction they fonud that an old man answering the description, had taken the Ann Arbor train for Owosso and telephoned to tbe officers here, wbo went to the depot to arrest him. The train was due when the message arrived and there was not muob time to lose in giving details. So Canfield and Hnbn took the rrmn who had got on at Pittsfield boand for Uwosso from the train here in spite of his vigorĂ³os protests that be was not the man wanted. After the train had one, another message from Pittsfield was received saying they had the right man in cnstody there. The wrong man said : "Oh yes, I passed a rnan about ruy age on tbe way to tbe station." The Ann Arbor officers had a small olepbant on their bands bnt tbe man for Ownsso qnickly told tbein that be wonld cali it sqnare if they wonld pay his fare to Owosso and give him 25 cents for bis loss of time. This the deputies gladly did besides makiug him an apology.
