Playa del Este, July 23.- Nine more vessels have been added to Spain's submarine fleet. They are at Manzanillo, nd were destroyed by the United States essels Wilmingrton, Hornet, Helena, Osceola, Wampatuck, Scorplon and Hist. The Spanish vesseis sunk or d sbled, according to the official report made by Commodore Todd of the Wilmington, to Rear Admiral Sampson, re: Guantanamo, Guardian, Delgado, Continola, Ostralia, all gunboats; El Gloria, Purissima Conception, José Garcia, all transports. One pontoon ship, name unknown, used as a store shlp for ammunition. Coramander Todd says in his report that the three transports were burned and destroyed, and the pontoon burned and blown up. Three of the gunboats n ere destroyed, Er.other was drivên .: ami sunb and the fifth was er sli re and disablecl. The Spanish less is believed to have been about 100 killed, but no casualties occurred on the American vessels. No attempt was made to injure the city of Manzanillo, and the Americans ïïept out of range of the shore batteries. The object of the attack was to destroy the enemy's ships, and this was fully and thoroughly accomplished in about two and a half hours.
